Lined Butterfly Valve (PFA/PTFE)
A lined butterfly valve is a butterfly valve whose wetted surfaces are covered with a fluoropolymer liner (PFA or PTFE) so the process fluid never touches the metal body. It is the corrosion-resistant isolation valve for aggressive chemicals.
What is a Lined Butterfly Valve (PFA/PTFE)
The liner is moulded onto the disc and body; only PFA/PTFE contacts the fluid, giving broad chemical resistance and a non-stick surface. The 316L or carbon-steel body provides mechanical strength while the fluoropolymer handles corrosion.
Materials & standards
- PFA or PTFE fluoropolymer liner on wetted surfaces
- 316L or carbon-steel body
- PTFE/EPDM dual seal
- ANSI / DIN / JIS flange faces
- Spark-tested liner as standard on request
Typical applications
- Aggressive acid and alkali isolation
- Chlor-alkali and specialty chemical
- High-purity and ultrapure-water loops
- Pharmaceutical solvent service
- Waste and effluent treatment
Lined Butterfly Valve (PFA/PTFE) at a glance
| Sealing | Tight with fluoropolymer seat |
|---|---|
| Chemical resistance | Broad; only PFA/PTFE contacts fluid |
| Relative cost | Higher than unlined; lower than all-alloy |
| Best use | Corrosion-resistant on/off isolation for aggressive fluids |
Frequently asked questions
When do I need a lined butterfly valve?
When the fluid attacks stainless steel or you need an ultrapure surface; the PFA/PTFE liner isolates the body from the process.
PFA or PTFE liner — which?
PFA resists more chemicals and welds cleanly for high-purity duty; PTFE is the broad baseline for aggressive service.
Does the liner affect cleanability?
Fluoropolymer liners are non-stick and easy to flush, which helps high-purity and clean-in-place loops.
